How Clutter Starts

Clutter doesn’t just appear out of nowhere. We are usually the reason for our own clutter! I know you may not want to hear that, but it’s the hard truth.
I will tell you exactly how clutter starts is the little voice in our heads saying “I might need it one day” And the fact is if this voice is in your head then chances are you are never going to need it one day. Also, what's the worst that will happen if you get rid of it and you do end up needing it? The worst thing would be you buy a new one, but better yet, you just find something you already have as an alternative.

You MIGHT need anything in the whole world at some point in your life, but that doesn’t mean you run out to make sure you own everything. That would be crazy, right?
Turn around the way you think about it. If you MIGHT need it one day, you also might NOT need it ever. And there is a good chance you could borrow this thing you think you might need.
When my mom passed away, my dad gave me all of her craft supplies, including a really nice Cricut machine. I had to remind myself that I do not enjoy crafting, and I have never used a Cricut machine. So why would I keep craft supplies and a Cricut machine? Might I have a need for a Cricut machine one day? Yes, I MIGHT, but if i might need it that means I also might NOT need it. That is all I need to know to be confident in my decision to get rid of that crafting stuff including the really nice Cricut machine. That was 10 years ago, and I could have used that Cricut machine 1 time in those 10 years. A good friend of mine helped me out and used her machine to make the one decal I needed for a project. I don’t anticipate needing anything like it again.
Instead of telling yourself that you might need it, tell yourself that you might never need it. That might help your clutter stop growing.
